Wanted: One Hot Body

fit-bodyI need more bodies in my life. Well, camera bodies anyway… My DSLR is a middle aged K200-D. It takes nice pictures, but I like using different lenses and I don’t like lens swapping – it opens up the sensor to dust contamination, which is a big problem in my house. My current lens is a nice Pentax DA 14mm F2.8 ED that I use for taking ad pics of my rental property. It’s great for interior shots, not so great for much else. I’d really like to get a fast 50mm prime (Pentax DA 50mm F1.8) and a 100mm macro lens (Pentax D FA 100mm macro F2.8). The problem is with only one camera body I’d be swapping lenses – a lot – like multiple partners a day. Dangerous. So I need at least one more body. My plan is to put the 50mm permanently on the K200, the 100mm macro on the new body, and since I only need the 14mm a few times a year, swap that out with the 100mm in a clean room environment – at least as “clean room” as I can get in my dusty house.

I haven’t really decided what to get for the body. With electronics it’s usually best to get the latest and greatest, which would mean Pentax’s new K3. The specs look good, but lack of an anti-aliasing (AA) filter kind of makes me nervous – especially since Pentax says the K3′s “simulated” AA filtering works best at shutter speeds of 1/1000 second or slower and applies vibrations to the sensor. Hmmm… just one more moving part to possibly fail. Because of that I’m also considering the discontinued K5-II. I’ll decide once I see some reviews of the K3…

My New Photo Journal

Last year I tried a 365 photo project and only made it through 66 days. It was a great idea, I just ran out of energy and fresh ideas. It’s been almost a year since the start of my first attempt so I decided to start a new photo journal. I think the problem last time was I just ran out of fresh ideas… Continue reading

Cheap Thrills

Cheap cameras are like cheap dates – you don’t have to spend a lot of money on them to have a really good time:) This is a jpeg straight out of my PowerShot ELPH 100HS  – no post processing. I doubt my X100 could have given me such a gorgeous shot without some Lightroom work…

Holga 120 – True Love

I’ve been shooting a lot with my Holga 120 lately – nothing to show yet because I have to send the film away to get processed – but I’ve been thinking a lot about the 120 lately, especially in comparison to the Holga 135. I bought the 135 because I wanted Holga pictures with the convenience of 35mm film (which I can get processed locally). Unfortunately, the pictures out if… Continue reading

Mail Order Fun

I’ve been lusting after the Canonet QL17-GIII ever since I laid eyes on one. The problem is most of them have been rode hard and put away wet – or the asking price was a little out of my range. Well, I found one on eBay this weekend for only $180 . She looks pretty hot… Continue reading

Holga’s Little Sister the Holga 135

I recently had a chance to check out a Holga 135 (a 35mm version of the Holga 120). I was hoping it would give me pictures with that beautiful Holga effect but allow me to use 35mm film. What a letdown… the Holga 135 might look just like the 120, but her personality is completely different. No vignetting, “normal” focal length, and even though the pictures had that plastic lens… Continue reading

All pretty in blue

Canon Powershot ELPH-100HS in Blue As much as I like fancy cameras, I usually spend my time with my most reliable partner, a Canon ELPH 100. She’s always ready to go and easy to take anywhere. Image quality isn’t the best but since I can get her into places it would be difficult to get my other cameras… Continue reading

My wife is going to be pissed…

I pre-ordered my Fuji X10 from Amazon today. I wasn’t really ready but the official release date is November 7th (this coming Monday) and I wanted to lock in the MSRP. For those who don’t remember, the X100 is still hard to find without paying at least a $100 premium over the MSRP and I’m not willing to do that with the X10. My other reason… Continue reading
