I’ve been shooting a lot with my Holga 120 lately – nothing to show yet because I have to send the film away to get processed – but I’ve been thinking a lot about the 120 lately, especially in comparison to the Holga 135. I bought the 135 because I wanted Holga pictures with the convenience of 35mm film (which I can get processed locally). Unfortunately, the pictures out if the 135 just didn’t have the Holga magic so I ended up getting rid of it. I’m still not crazy about having to send out the 120 film for processing but the pictures from the 120 are worth the hassle – at least for now. I think the Holga 120 is at its best with black and white film, but the color results look pretty dreamy too. I’d like to try shooting a roll of Velvia through it next, and then maybe try a roll of cross processed film. If you’ve been thinking about a Holga, my advice would be to not waste your money on the Holga 135, instead go for the Holga 120. The pictures you’ll get will really be a lot better and it’s definitely worth the extra hassle of sending the film out for developing. Of course if you shoot in BW you can do your own developing. I found a new Web 2.0 site that is great if you want your own site but don’t want to host it yourself – Zujava. I like it so much that I’ve decided to put all my best Fuji X10 photos there instead of Flickr. You can actually show off your photography 3 ways on Zujava – as a gallery hosted by Zujava, by linking your… Continue reading

I’ve been lusting after the Canonet QL17-GIII ever since I laid eyes on one. The problem is most of them have been rode hard and put away wet – or the asking price was a little out of my range. Well, I found one on eBay this weekend for only $180 . She looks pretty hot… Continue reading

I recently had a chance to check out a Holga 135 (a 35mm version of the Holga 120). I was hoping it would give me pictures with that beautiful Holga effect but allow me to use 35mm film. What a letdown… the Holga 135 might look just like the 120, but her personality is completely different. No vignetting, “normal” focal length, and even though the pictures had that plastic lens… Continue reading

As much as I like fancy cameras, I usually spend my time with my most reliable partner, a Canon ELPH 100. She’s always ready to go and easy to take anywhere. Image quality isn’t the best but since I can get her into places it would be difficult to get my other cameras… Continue reading

I pre-ordered my Fuji X10 from Amazon today. I wasn’t really ready but the official release date is November 7th (this coming Monday) and I wanted to lock in the MSRP. For those who don’t remember, the X100 is still hard to find without paying at least a $100 premium over the MSRP and I’m not willing to do that with the X10. My other reason… Continue reading

If you’re looking for a good time you could do worse than spending time with JoJo. Seriously – PhotoJoJo is a very cool photography camera site. I came across it by accident one day when I was Googling for information on Holga. They’re mainly geared towards photo projects but they publish a fair… Continue reading

Ah, Yashica… what a beauty. These were made from 1973-1977 and I picked up this one on eBay for less than $100 including shipping. It also came with a soft leather case that looks brand new except for the stitching on one of the seams is separating a little. Mine came with new light seals, a battery conversion, and the film advance button repaired. If you’re looking for a beautiful… Continue reading

What can I say… I’m a sucker for a pretty face and I’m willing to pay for it. Now I just need to figure out a way to come up with $600 this weekend so I can pre-order one of these hotties from Amazon…

The first time I saw a picture of Holga I wondered why anyone would want to spend time with her – she looked so plain… kind of on the chunky side… and cheap – even chintzy. But I kept reading glowing reviews from people who’d spent a lot of time with her – I just had to give her a try. You have to admit she’s… Continue reading | 1 Comment
